4270 Boot Ranch Circle is a private residence located in the Texas Hill Country north of Fredericksburg. It is bordered by a sprawling ranch to the east and a nationally ranked private golf course to the west.
The property consists of a 5,000+ sf main house, three casitas, a garage apartment, an indoor pickleball court, a pool terrace, and a vehicular bridge that crosses the headwaters of Palo Alto Creek. As the Landscape Architect, MPLA was commissioned to create a series of outdoor spaces that enhanced each building’s use, as well as connect the overall site.
The main house is surrounded by a series of terraced planters that ground the building into the existing hillside using limestone masonry walls and native shrubs and grasses. Salt-finished concrete sidewalks and accent lighting lead to three casitas, each surrounded by a balance of artificial turf lawns and Texas native planting beds. Over 165 tons of large limestone boulders were brought in and strategically placed to achieve a natural setting that blurs the lines between man-made and natural landscapes. Seventy 200-gallon native trees were sourced and planted throughout the property. These included live oak, bur oak, Spanish oak, cedar elm, and bald cypress, among others. Lastly, MPLA restored all areas of the property affected by construction by amending the surrounding soils and hydroseeding a mix of native grasses and wildflowers.
MPLA both designed and installed the landscape, working with the client and owner through several design iterations during construction to achieve a one-of-a-kind project that we were proud to be a part of.
