Serenity Apartments is multi-family apartment building in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. The project is located on a steeply sloped 1-acre site, bounded by South Huntington Avenue to the east and Jamaicaway and Emerald Necklace Parklands to the west. The development includes street level retail and townhomes, a 195-unit apartment building, and a 7,000sf interior courtyard above an underground parking garage.
South Huntington Avenue streetscape enhancements included a new concrete sidewalk, permeable paving strip for sidewalk drainage and groundwater re charge, street trees, a new bus shelter, and entry stairs located at the residential lobby entrance. Resolving existing grading was a significant challenge for the site. As a result, a series of stone planters and entry patios were designed to allow for direct entry from the street into both the townhomes and retail.
The interior courtyard features flexible gathering space for private and group seating, raised planting mounds with shade trees and native planting and a framed view that overlooks The Emerald Necklace.
